For those not in the know, I've always been a bit of a collector... As a kid, I went through phases with comics, and baseball cards. Later, that "card" bug swung towards basketball cards for a few years, and (the one that sort of really stuck) Magic cards. But I also collected other things, as well...
Like "school stuff"... It's amazing how much we can learn - and forget - over time. In going through several boxes of "stuff", I found notes from Theatre classes, Marketing and Accounting classes, Lodging Management, Organizational Management... Notes, quizes and projects for classes that I had taken over six years ago - some of which I had even forgotten taking. Other classes, I looked at the relics, wondering at how I actually used to know what the stuff meant - like the symbols and formulas for Statistics... or the lines of code from programs written in 1996, when I was taking Computer Science classes... 1996?!?! That's thirteen long years of holding on to something that I haven't really thought about, except in passing through the papers...
So I started piling up the documents, and committing them to the shred stack. I'm quirky, in that I like going through most of the items, mostly to double check for tidbits or random notes that might still be usable (the writer in me, I guess, looking out for a good line, or a snippet that might be of use as an idea spark)... I've saved a few things, but almost all of the stuff is glorigied kindling.
It felt good to start letting some of it go... a lot of it I haven't needed/looked at since getting out of the classes, and the important concepts that I may need in the future... well, if I do need them, I'm sure a little mental dusting will help to clear most of the cobwebs that may have formed overthe information. Until then, I'm sure MC will be much happier for the "clearing of stuff"... I know I'm getting there.
